The best new streaming shows this week on Netflix, Hulu, Apple, and more
It’s hard to keep track of which streaming service is premiering which new show or movie from week to week. Netflix used to be king, but the streaming field is full of alternatives, and they’re all regularly pumping out new content. So, what are the best new streaming shows and where can you watch them?
Every week, we answer that question for you, offering some exciting new and returning titles, including streaming originals, from services Peacock, HBO Max, Apple TV Plus, Prime Video, and, yes, Netflix. This week’s featured titles include the new seasons of Rick and Morty, Queer Eye, and The Great, as well as some exciting new series premieres from Hulu, Apple TV Plus, and Netflix.

The best new streaming shows this week
Class of ’09 (2023)
Hulu — May 10
This FX thriller miniseries is one of our most anticipated new streaming shows of the week. With a cast that includes Brian Tyree Henry, Kate Mara, and Brian J. Smith, Class of ’09 follows a cohort of FBI agents across three timelines as they grapple with the changing American justice system and its growing reliance on artificial intelligence.
Rick and Morty, season 6 (2013-ongoing)
HBO Max — May 11
After launching on Adult Swim in 2022, the latest season of Rick and Morty is finally having its streaming premiere on HBO Max. Follow the continuing adventures of mad scientist Rick and his grandson Morty as they journey across time and space in this beloved animated comedy.
City on Fire (2023)
Apple TV Plus — May 12
Based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Garth Risk Hallberg, Apple TV Plus’ City on Fire is one of the most exciting new streaming shows you can check out. It follows an investigation into a young woman shot in Central Park. Soon, her death is connected to mysterious city-wide fires, the downtown music scene, and a wealthy but dysfunctional uptown real-estate family.
The Great, season 3 (2020-ongoing)
Hulu — May 12
First released as a limited series, The Great has been such a success that it’s now entering its third season. The historical drama/dark comedy follows the rise of Catherine the Great in 18th-century Russia. Learning to manage her difficult husband, Peter, Catherine maneuvers her way into a position of historic power.
Mulligan (2023)
Netflix — May 12
Featuring the voices of Nat Faxon, Dana Carvey, Tina Fey, Ayo Edebiri, Daniel Radcliffe, Sam Richardson, Chrissy Teigen, and more, Mulligan is Netflix’s latest adult animated comedy. When an alien attack destroys (most of) Earth, a group of survivors has the chance to start fresh and create a perfect society. Or they can try.
Queer Eye, season 7 (2018-ongoing)
Netflix — May 12
The Fab Five are back! The rebooted Queer Eye quickly became one of Netflix’s biggest unscripted hits when it launched in 2018. Now in their seventh season, the five hosts visit a new batch of heroes, nominated by their loved ones. Combining expertise in food, culture, design, grooming, and fashion, they work together to give a complete makeover to someone who can use a little help, uplifting and empowering them along the way.

Édgar Ramirez stars in this new comedy-drama miniseries on Netflix. He plays Mike Valentine, a disgraced cop who returns home to Florida to track down a mob boss’ missing girlfriend. Once there, he’s swept up in a wild and deadly treasure hunt.
Titans, season 4 — part 2 (2018-ongoing)
HBO Max — April 13
The wait is over! The second half of the final season of Titans is finally launching on HBO Max, one of the most anticipated new streaming shows this week. Find out what happens to the superhero team after the explosive mid-season finale that aired last year.
A Black Lady Sketch Show, season 4 (2019-ongoing)
HBO Max — April 14
This hilarious HBO sketch comedy show, created by Robin Thede, is back and streaming on HBO Max. Thede is joined by Gabrielle Dennis and Skye Townsend who play larger-than-life characters. The central trio is joined by plenty of guest stars including Issa Rae, Tracee Ellis Ross, Colman Domingo, Bobby Brown, Kyla Pratt, Omarion, Sam Richardson, and Yvette Nicole Brown.
Jane (2023)
Apple TV Plus — April 14
This educational series on Apple TV Plus blends live action and animated elements to entertain and enlighten kids. Nine-year-old Jane is a budding environmentalist. As her hero Jane Goodall says, “Only if we understand, will we care. Only if we care, will we help. Only if we help, can they be saved.” With that philosophy, she goes on adventures using her imagination, to save endangered animals with her best friends David and Greybeard the chimpanzee.
The Last Thing He Told Me (2023)
Apple TV Plus — April 14
Based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Laura Dave, The Last Thing He Told Me is one of the most exciting new streaming shows this week. Jennifer Garner stars as a woman whose husband suddenly goes missing. Now, she has to protect her 16-year-old step-daughter. Together, maybe they can solve the mystery of what happened to her father.
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, season 5 (2017-ongoing)
Prime Video — April 14
The popular Prime Video original series from Gilmore Girls creator Amy Sherman-Palladino returns for a fifth and final season. The story of a housewife-turned-standup comedian in 1950s and 60s New York will come to a close as Midge continues to push against misogyny to make her mark and find success in the male-dominated world of comedy with her trusted agent Susie by her side.
Barry, season 4 (2018-ongoing)
HBO Max — April 16
HBO’s sleeper hit Barry is back for its fourth and final season. The dark comedy-drama starring Bill Hader follows a depressed hitman who tries to leave his old life behind to become an actor. Of course, his past isn’t so quick to let him go. With Barry now behind bars, he has to figure out what led to his capture and what comes next as the award-winning series comes to a close.
New Girl, the complete series (2011-2018)
Hulu — April 17
One of the best sitcoms of the last decade, all seven seasons of New Girl are heading to Hulu, where it’s one of the best new streaming shows this week. When Jess’s relationship ends, she needs a place to stay and finds a loft with three men she’s never met. What at first seems like a short-term, unconventional arrangement soon leads to long-lasting friendships among the group as Jess starts anew with her found family.
Mike Judge’s Beavis & Butt-Head, season 2 (2022-ongoing)
Paramount Plus — April 20
Mike Judge brings his rebooted MTV animated comedy back for a second season at its new home on Paramount Plus. The two dimwitted teens return for more oddball misadventures as they attempt to score and rock out.
The Diplomat (2023)
Netflix — April 20
Keri Russell stars in this new Netflix drama, one of the most anticipated new streaming shows on the service. A career diplomat has to manage an international crisis when she’s reassigned to a high-profile job as ambassador to the UK, all while juggling her turbulent marriage to a political celebrity.
Fired on Mars (2023)
HBO Max — April 20
This existential, animated workplace comedy is based on the animated short of the same name. It is set on the Martian campus of a tech company. Featuring the voice of Pete Davidson, it follows a recently fired employee who dreams about his wife on Earth while killing time eating potato chips.
Mrs. Davis (2023)
Peacock — April 20
Betty Gilpin stars in this bizarre new sci-fi drama streaming on Peacock. A nun must confront a powerful new AI in this tale of faith against technology. The series was created by Tara Hernandez and Damon Lindelof, and it premiered at South by Southwest.
Dead Ringers (2023)
Prime Video — April 21
A modern update f David Cronenberg’s classic thriller, Dead Ringers stars Rachel Weisz in the dual role of Elliot and Beverly Mantle, two twins who share everything, including drugs and lovers, as well as a gynecological practice where they push the boundaries of medical ethics in an attempt to bring women’s healthcare into the future. Dead Ringers is one of the most exciting new streaming shows you won’t want to miss this week on Prime Video.
Somebody Somewhere, season 2 (2022-ongoing)
HBO Max — April 23
When her sister dies, a woman in her 40s living in Manhattan, Kansas, deals with the fallout as she faces her midlife crisis in this critically-acclaimed comedy-drama on HBO. The sleeper hit is back for its second season, and it’s one of the best new streaming shows of the week.
Saint X (2023)
Hulu — April 26
Based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Alexis Schaitkin, Saint X is a psychological thriller streaming on Hulu. When a woman dies mysteriously in the Caribean, it draws her surviving sister into dangerous investigation with complex ripple effects.
Sam — A Saxon (2023)
Hulu — April 26
Sam — A Saxon is the first German-language original produced for Disney Plus (Hulu in the U.S.). It tells the true story of Samuel Meffirem, the first Black police officer in East Germany. Meffire fought extreme prejudice to become one of the faces of the New Germany, but it was quickly taken away when he was imprisoned and labelled public enemy number one.
Love & Death (2023)
HBO Max — April 27
This long-awaited HBO Max miniseries stars Elizabeth Olson as Candy Montgomery, a Texas housewife accused of murder in the 1980s. The shocking true story co-stars Jesse Plemmons, Krysten Ritter, and Lily Rabe.
Sweet Tooth, season 2 (2020-ongoing)
Netflix — April 27
This beloved Netflix series based on the comic books by Jeff Lemire is back for a second season. Gus has been caught, and now he’ll have to work with his fellow hybrids to learn more about the Great Crumble, all while Jepperd seeks a way to free him and the other kids.
Citadel (2023)
Prime Video — April 28
Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Richard Madden star in this Prime Video original espionage thriller. When a global spy agency is disbanded, its agents’ memories are wiped. Now, Citadel’s former employees will have to figure out the secrets of their pasts as a new crime syndicate attempts to sweep in and fill the power vacuum.
Fatal Attraction (2023)
Paramount Plus — April 30
One of the most exciting new streaming shows to check out this week, Fatal Attraction is a remake of the 1980s erotic thriller classic. When a businessman has an affair, the woman he slapped with proves to be much more than she seems and threatens his perfect life and marriage. This new, updated take on the story stars Lizzy Caplan, Joshua Jackson, and Amanda Peet.
Bupkis (2023)
Peacock — May 4
In this fictionalized version of comedian Pete Davidson’s life, Davidson stars as himself. He navigates unique family dynamics, joined by a star-studded cast that includes Edie Falco, Joe Pesci, Steve Buscemi, Bobby Cannavale, Charlamagne Tha God, Charlie Day, Al Gore, John Mulaney, Simon Rex, Oona Roche, Ray Romano, Cliff “Method Man” Smith, Jon Stewart, Kenan Thompson, Machine Gun Kelly, and more.
The Other Two, season 3 (2019-ongoing)
HBO Max — May 4
One of HBO Max’s best original shows is back for its third season. The Other Two is certainly one of the best new streaming shows you’ll want to check out this week. As their little brother continues his meteoric rise to pop stardom, Cary and Brooke Dubek are finally finding some success of their own. That doesn’t mean their jealousy and bitterness is gone for good though, as the two continue on their bumpy journeys.
Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story (2023)
Netflix — May 4
Fans of Netflix’s smash hit Bridgerton won’t want to miss this new spinoff prequel series. The series looks back at the youth of Queen Charlotte, played in Bridgerton by Golda Rosheuvel and by India Ria Amarteifio in her younger years. The young queen’s marriage to King George of England offers an epic romance, ushering in a new era for high society.
Star Wars: Visions — Volume 2 (2021-ongoing)
Disney Plus — May 4
In this follow-up to 2021’s groundbreaking Star Wars: Visions, seven Japanese animation studios tell new stories set in the world of Star Wars. With unique visions, the seven shorts offer a wide range of distinct interpretations of the classic source material over a long period of time in a galaxy far, far away.
Silo (2023)
Apple’s latest series boasts a massive all-star cast led by Rebecca Ferguson. The sci-fi drama is set in a dystopian future and is one of the most exciting new streaming shows this week. In a self-sufficient society in a buried silo, a community lives under strict rules they have been told are in place to protect them from the toxic surface of the earth. They may have been deceived.
Unicorn: Warriors Eternal (2023)
HBO Max — May 5
Samurai Jack creator Genndy Tartakovsky brings us his weirdest animated series yet for Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim, streaming on HBO Max. When a young girl finds herself in possession of new magical abilities, she comes to discover that she is part of a long line of eternal heroes destined to fight a supernatural evil.
